Denare Beach’s history

Denare Beach sits on the east shore of Amisk Lake, on Highway 167, about 20 kilometres south-west of Flin Flon. The area around the lake was first known as "Beaver Lake"; Amisk is the Cree word for beaver, and that is where the early name came from.

The present community was subdivided in 1937. Once a roadway was built to the mining centre of Flin Flon, it quickly became a resort area. When Saskatchewan Parks took responsibility for the area, it replaced the Amisk or Beaver name with Denare Beach, made from the first two letters of each word in Department of Natural Resources.

Denare Beach has kept its resort feel over the years. The Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting Company's Konuto Lake mine operated less than two kilometres to the south-east. On 2 June 2025, the fast-moving Wolf wildfire consumed most of the town.
